A Doody's Core Title for 2011!

Praise for The Color Atlas of Family Medicine for iPhone and iPad!

"While there is no shortage of quality medical applications available for iPhone and iPad, there are very few that offer the quality and breadth of information that you’ll find in The Color Atlas of Family Medicine....Bottom Line: The Color Atlas of Family Medicine for iPhone and iPad is a truly comprehensive resource for family physicians, general practitioners, internal medicine residents and medical students alike."--Tapscape

From a JAMA Review
"This book was a genuine treat to review. The more than 1000 pages are chock full of figures and photographs illustrating virtually every illness seen by a family physician or other specialist. But this book, edited by 4 family physicians and an obstetrician-gynecologist, is much more than simply a pictorial atlas. Various chapters are written by family physicians as well as specialists.
"The Color Atlas of Family Medicine is a comprehensive visual guide to daily patient care. It will be valuable to medical students, residents, and all practicing physicians. I recommend that it be included in the library of every family medicine residency program. It is an excellent reference and it will be enjoyed by anyone who reads the patient stories or anyone who just wants to look at the figures and photographs. I think this book is a classic example of why the Internet will try but never take the place of a well-written hardbound textbook."
--JAMA

"The Color Atlas of Family Medicine is a wonderful compendium of 1500 clinical images supported by comprehensive, evidence-based information useful to any clinician. It is the kind of book that many of us who practice clinical medicine had hoped to find, but never succeeded; that is, until now. Whereas this book will definitely appeal to those who love to examine clinical photographs, it is also an excellent resource for almost every topic encountered in a standard primary practice....In this day and age when new products must compete with the convenience of computer-generated information, this atlas has a unique competitive edge. This entertaining and useful 1095-page resource is available 24/7, regardless of whether or not the electricity is running. I have a very rural practice and this atlas has become an invaluable adjunct to my database of information at hand. In my opinion, it is underpriced and well worth the investment. It makes a wonderful gift to any student of medicine or clinician and will entertain and educate for years. I am truly grateful for its creation."--The Permanente Journal

5 STAR DOODY'S REVIEW!
"This is what a modern textbook should be. It is concise yet comprehensive in the breadth of topics and, as the title suggests, robust with color photographs of extraordinarily good quality.
"The editors state clearly in the preface that family physicians see a wide variety of conditions that lend themselves to an atlas such as this, and they support the pictures with evidence-based information, which makes this book so worthwhile and valuable. The editors and contributors balance the images and text, in an extremely useful way.
"Although the title puts the focus on family physicians, the book clearly is a tremendous resource for all, including internal medicine practitioners, students, and those in every specialty who may only rarely encounter some of these conditions. The list of contributors is extensive and well balanced, bringing together experts from all specialties of medicine.
"By far, this is one of the best, most useful textbooks I have seen in a very long time. It is a must for the library of every primary care physician."

5An outstanding resource for clinical practice  Jan 13, 2009 By Michael Wilkes "Clinical Professor"
As a professor who teaches clinical primary care (actually internal medicine), I can say that I have been waiting for years for a book like The Color Atlas of Family Medicine. The 227 chapters offer something for everyone. The information is practical, timely, and extremely well presented. The pictures are simply outstanding! There are some sections with enormous practical value including physical and sexual abuse, oral health, woman's health and of course dermatology. While the other sections are strong these sections seem exceptional and are not well covered in other books of clinical medicine.

Each chapter is organized in a manner that assists the busy clinician to diagnose and treat the condition. At the conclusion of each chapter there are both patient and provider resources for those wishing more information. The only negative of The Color Atlas of Family Medicine would be having to carry it around given its 1100 pages! A superb book of enormous clinical value!

    5Great reference!  May 26, 2011 By leann
When I first received this book, I briefly paged through it and was initially impressed with the images. My underlying thought was that it would skimp on information. I was quite wrong. This book not only provides superior medical images, but also brief and concise descriptions of major pathologies. It is very unique and impressive that for most (if not all, I have not read the entire book) part there are references to websites for patient resources and further provider reading. I should specify that the further provider resource extends beyond the references themselves. I even appreciate the little clinical blebs at the beginning of each topic.

The only real fault is that the book is not 100% exhaustive. This is no surprise to me, as even a 1000 something page multi-discipline book could not possibly include every single topic. However, it hits the big ones and I think it is a great book.

I highly recommend this book, with no reservation.

5Wonderful Review Book  Dec 22, 2010 By C. Carlson "CSM"
One of the better and more usable med review texts I've seen. Great as a quick reference or more in-depth read. Very well done

5Terrific resource  Jan 26, 2009 By Katherine Margo
I had a chance to review this textbook at a meeting. It is a wonderful resource. The photos are well done, it is very well organized with the information very accessible. It's not just dermatology, though there is lots of that too. Well worth the price!

5Color Atlas of Family Medicine (Hardcopy and App.)  Dec 20, 2011 By Yu Wah
I've always loved The Color Atlas of Family Medicine as a hardcopy textbook, and now even more as an electronic application for its portability and many user friendly functions. As a teacher and learner in Family Medicine and Dermatology, this atlas is an invaluable resource. Excellent quality pictures look great on the iPad. My patients appreciate seeing pictures of other people with the same medical conditions as theirs. Concise and evidence-based recommendations are just what we need in the busy setting of primary care. It is one of my most frequently referenced books/apps. A must-have for every teacher, learner or practitioner of Family Medicine or primary care.
