“Another masterpiece! The author of The South Beach Diet has taken a sharpshooter’s aim at heart disease, the Normandy Beach for half of all Americans.”

—Mehmet Oz, M.D., co-author of You: An Owner’s Manual and You: On a Diet

Heart disease is the number one killer of men and women in this country. This year alone, 865,000 people will have a new or recurrent heart attack, and another 700,000 will have a stroke. Don’t become a statistic—heart attacks and strokes can be prevented!

In The South Beach Heart Health Revolution, Dr. Arthur Agatston’s innovative approach to heart disease prevention will show you how to protect your heart and live a longer, healthier life. He not only explains how to assess your cardiac risks and avoid unneccessary surgery, but also teaches you how to make life-saving changes, including rethinking your eating and exercise habits, to beat the odds of suffering from cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Agatston explains:

  • How you can have a negative stress test and still be at risk for a heart attack
  • Why your cholesterol level may not accurately indicate your risk for heart attack
  • How a simple noninvasive heart scan can reveal if you are a cardiac time bomb
  • Why belly fat can be deadly—and what you can do about it
  • What you need to know about life-saving state-of-the-art blood testing, heart imaging, medications, and more
  • How to transform your lifestyle with satisfying heart-healthy eating and an exercise program that’s easy to integrate into your daily routine

The South Beach Heart Health Revolution will change the way you treat your health, your heart, and your approach to living well.

“This book is a must-read for everyone who wonders about their risk, and the risk of a loved one, to suffer a heart attack and what to do about it.”

—H. Robert Superko, MD, FACC, FAHA; chairman, Molecular, Genetic, and Preventative Cardiology, Fuqua Heart Center of Atlanta

5Informative and Encouraging  Oct 20, 2008
I was amazed at how Dr. Agatston was able to explain the medical jargon as well as the latest findings on heart health. It was encouraging to read that preventing heart attacks is possible....even if your genetics tend toward it!
He gave a balanced plan that is without pressure and doable, and guidelines as to when medical intervention is needed. It is obvious that his desire is to lower the statistics on heart attacks and invasive surgeries rather than pad his wallet.

4Reccomended by cardiologist  Oct 19, 2008
This is easy for a layman to read & understand. The foods suggested in Phase 1 & 2 are readily available in our local grocery store. A cardiologist reccomended this book, so that's good enough for us.

5South Beach Heart Book  Aug 28, 2008
Dr. Agatston's explanation of the heart and heart disease is written in layman's terms so everyone will have an easy time to understand the "ins" and "outs" of heart disease. After reading this book, you will want to change your life style and ask your doctor for these life saving tests. I would highly recommend this book especially if you have a family history of heart disease and stroke.

2merely okay  Jul 29, 2008
Okay, but not, imho, as accurate nor as engaging as other books. Try Ultrametabolism instead.

5Lost 50 lbs with this and kept it off for five years running  May 13, 2008
Positives: delicious, nutritious food. Never felt hungry through a year of using the recipes and menus. That was five years ago and 50 pounds ago. The 50 have stayed off because I/we still eat the same way, and always will. Negatives: preparation of many recipes takes a LOT of time and access to a few ingredients that are hard to find in a small town grocery store. This would be a TERRIFIC diet if only one had someone to prepare all this food for you. Still the best diet out there; it works and it changes the way you will eat and think about food for the rest of your life.
